"Performance and Durability of Take Yumi are not compatible ", Sakae Urakami sensei, the Kyudo Master of Hekiryu Insai, Hanshi Ju - dan, explained in his book.

In terms of performance, a bow made of light and elastic bamboo and wood, realizes great shooting performance. A bow made of heavy and hard bamboo and wood has relatively low elasticity, and durable against a shock of shooting.

Western archery equipment is more durable than Japanese Kyudo equipment: wide limb, metal handle, hard synthetic strings. Stabilizer and damper relives the shock by shooting.

However, traditional Kyudo bow equipment is much more fragile than Western Archery equipment. Long and thin bows made by bamboo and wood, arrow made by bamboo, and thin hemp strings.

Then, how do Kyudo archers solve the problem: How do we relive the damage from the shock of shooting? The answer is traditional Kyudo shooting way.

In traditional Kyudo shooting, the strong power of twisting bow unlocks a string from a groove of Yugake of Kataboushi, which rotate the bow and the string to flight an arrow: this movement minimize the shock on string, bow, and arrow. This right way of traditional Kyudo shooting way is good not only for good performance, but also protecting a bow.

Yugake of Kata-boushi is necessary to shoot straight in Kyudo shooting

For protecting Kyudo bow, using hemp strings is the best for MIYATA FRP bows and bamboo bows, since the hemp strings are softer than synthetic strings and broken when archers make wrong shots to give strong shock to Kyudo eqyipment. Hard type synthetic strings are durable from the shock of shootings but might give serious damage to bows. Relatively softs type synthetic strings are the second best.
